Universal Studios is planning on closing its two largest theme parks in North America.
The company has told investors that it is in the process of closing its Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Park Hollywood theme parks as well as the Universal Studios Shanghai theme park and Disney California Adventure park.
Its theme parks have been plagued by poor attendance and financial problems for the past two years.
In a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday, Universal said that it expects to shut the Universal Orlando theme park, Universal’s Hollywood Studios theme park in Orlando, and the Universal CityWalk and Universal Fantasy theme parks.
It also said it is shutting down Universal’s Universal Studios Anaheim and Universal’s Disneyland theme parks, which have also been plagued with poor attendance.
In December, Universal had said it was considering shutting down its theme parks and was considering “retaining the properties” of Disney.
